AIHce SCHEDULE

What are the changes to the schedule for AIHce 2017?

Professional Development Courses (PDCs) will be held on Saturday, June 3, Sunday, June 4, and Thursday, June 8. The conference itself will be Monday, June 5 through Wednesday, June 7. Education sessions will be one hour long with time in between to allow you to move from one to another. Committee meetings will be held in the early morning or late afternoon so you’ll have time to attend the education sessions. The Expo will be throughout the day, and there will be 90 minutes of dedicated Expo time in the middle of the day to allow you visit exhibitors.

When are the general sessions?

There will be four general sessions, which bring together all conference attendees. AIHce 2017 kicks off with the Opening General Session on Monday morning, featuring keynote speaker Ken Jennings. Tuesday morning the day begins with Ignite, an energizing series of short presentations on a wide range of topics. Wednesday morning is the Mark of Excellence breakfast, where AIHA and ACGIH honorees are recognized for their achievements. Then, the conference comes to an end with the general session on Wednesday afternoon, featuring Dr. John Medina.

Why were changes made to the schedule?

AIHA has been doing a lot of research into AIHce and how to make it better. Our members and attendees have been telling us they want a conference schedule that isn’t as hectic and long, with fewer but better education sessions. In previous years there has been a huge drop in attendance on Thursday, a clear indication by attendees that they considered the conference to be over on Wednesday. We took all of these factors and came up with a new design that reflects what you’ve told us you want.

When does the conference start?

That depends on whether you’re participating in PDCs or not. There are half-day, full-day, and two-day PDCs on Saturday and Sunday. Then, we welcome you to Seattle with the AIHce Social on Sunday night from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. The conference officially begins bright and early Monday morning with the opening general session at 8:00 a.m.

REGISTRATION FEES

What does my registration fee include?

Your paid registration for AIHce includes access to all the education sessions at AIHce, plus the General Sessions, movie matinee, mock trial, named lectures, and more. You’ll be able to attend the AIHce Social on Sunday night andthe Expo Hall Networking Reception on Monday evening.. You’ll also receive access to AIHce On Demand after the conference.

Did the registration fees go up this year?

In order to provide access to AIHce On Demand to every paid registrant, we needed to cover our costs so the registration fee was increased $69 over last year. For more information on AIHce On Demand, please see the section below.

What changed with the housing fee?

To be honest, nothing changed other than the words. We used to call the lower registration fee—the one for people who stay in our hotel block—the advanced or standard fee. That didn’t really make sense, so we changed the names. Now the advanced or standard rates are the fees you pay before the stay and save discount earned by staying in the conference hotel block.

Why do you charge more for not staying in the block?

AIHA negotiates rates at nearby hotels as a courtesy to our attendees. The hotels agree to the rates and reserve a block of rooms for us, with the expectation that those rooms will be sold. If they’re not, AIHA pays a penalty. As an incentive to encourage you to stay within the block, we offer a discounted registration fee for the conference.

CERTIFICATION MAINTENANCE

How many certification maintenance (CM) credits will I earn from attending AIHce 2017?

You’ll receive 18 hours for attending the conference from Monday through Wednesday. You can earn additional credit for any PDCs you take and OnDemand sessions you listen to. See the PDC descriptions and OnDemand instructions for amounts.

AIHce ON DEMAND

What do I need to do to watch the recordings?

It takes 4 to 6 weeks after AIHce to prepare the recordings for viewing. When they are ready, you will receive login instructions that will allow you access the library of session recordings from AIHce 2017. At the conclusion, you’ll be asked to complete an evaluation and submit for credit Detailed instructions will be sent along with the login instructions.

Can I earn credit from watching session recordings?

You can earn credit for each additional session recording you watch as long as you follow the procedure for submitting for credit, explained in the instructions. You will have access to these recordings through December 31, 2017 and can view as many as you’re interested in.

HOUSING

Why wasn’t I able to get a reservation at the hotel I wanted?

AIHA has reserved blocks of rooms at 10 different hotels in Seattle. Depending on popularity, the room block at one hotel may sell out sooner than at another, so it’s important to make your reservations sooner rather than later.

The hotel I want isn’t showing up when I search?

We book sleeping rooms on a bell curve, with the most rooms available Sunday and Monday nights. If the hotel you want doesn’t show up when you search for your arrival and departure dates, try changing one of the dates (later if it’s arrival, and earlier if it’s departure). If the hotel appears in the list, book it and reach out to customer service (800-462-9260) to request that they ask the hotel for the additional nights. If the hotel you want does not appear after changing your arrival or departure dates, it is sold out.

The government hotel per diem rate for Seattle is higher than the AIHA conference hotel rates. Why?

U.S. government employees have a per diem rate of $240 for hotels in Seattle in June, 2017, which means they can be reimbursed for hotel room expense up to that amount. AIHA was able to negotiate hotel rates for AIHce that are lower than the per diem rate.

WHAT TO BRING

What’s the attire for the conference?

We want you to be comfortable at AIHce. Most folks come in business casual attire. Sometimes the meeting rooms are cold, so we recommend you bring a sweater or layers for your comfort. Typical Seattle temperatures for early June are daytime highs in the upper 60s to low 70s and nighttime lows in the 50s. The locals will tell you the weather in June varies greatly. It may be cloudy and rainy or it could be sunny, so come prepared for the possibility of precipitation.
